Skills Training Course for Security Guards - AB 2880
In an effort to upgrade the level of training and the quality of personnel in the security industry, the State of California requires all licensed security guards to complete additional training after receiving their Guard Registration.
Skills Training Course Requirements for Security Guards:
In addition to the 8 hour Guard Card Training Course, every newly licensed security guard must complete 32 hours of additional training. Sixteen (16) hours must be completed within 30 days from the day the registration is issued, or within 30 days of starting employment. The remaining 16 hours must be completed within the first 6 months from the day the registration is issued, or within 6 months of starting employment. Also, eight (8) hours of Continuing Education is required every year after the first year. Click here for more information on the Skills Training Requirements for Security Guards (AB 2880).
The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) has started a program of inspections to determine whether security guards have received the mandatory continuing education training mentioned above. Failure to be in compliance may result in your Guard Registration being suspended or revoked, and/or you may be fined by the BSIS.
